Dennis Bradley is pleased to announce that he has qualified to be a candidate for the District Five seat of the St. Bernard Parish School Board in the November 6 election.
Mr. Bradley has been a teacher at Chalmette High School for the last 20 years and prior to that taught at Arabi Park Middle School. During his Student Teaching Semester at the University of New Orleans, Mr. Bradley was assigned to Chalmette High. He says “this is when I made my decision to pursue a career as a teacher in the St. Bernard Parish Public Schools.”
In August of 1991, Mr. Bradley received his first teaching assignment at Arabi Park Middle. While coaching football at Arabi Park he met his future wife Diane. She was a widow with two sons, Eddie and Bryan Cassard. They bought a home in Carolyn Park and had another son, Dylan. When Arabi Park was closed Mr. Bradley transferred to Chalmette High.
Mr. Bradley said, “we were happy with our lives on Jaguar Drive until Katrina displaced us and upended our lives.” After confronting and getting over the shock and trauma of Katrina, the Bradleys’ made a decision to return to their home St. Bernard. “We wanted to be part of its rebuilding and invest our efforts and finances in its recovery.” There was also a professional desire to support and assist our returning students, and as soon as Chalmette High reopened he returned to teach U.S. History. After Katrina the Bradleys’ moved into the Fifth District. They bought and remodeled their “new” home on Fenelon St.
Mr. Bradley is proud that all three of his sons attended St. Bernard Parish Public Schools and that all three are graduates of Chalmette High. “Our grandson also attends Arabi Elementary; we have confidence in and fully support St. Bernard’s Public Schools.”
During his years of teaching Mr. Bradley was voted Teacher of the Year at Arabi Park Middle. He has also sat on the St. Bernard School Board’s Calendar Committee, Discipline Committee, and Insurance Committee. He currently serves as the President of the St. Bernard Association of Educators, a position he has held for 10 of the past 20 years. Mr. Bradley is a member of the Louisiana Association of Educators and the National Education Association. Along with being a sponsor of the Chalmette High Key Club and Student Council, he has also been a chaperone for the Chalmette High Senior Trip.
Mr. Bradley currently serves as a board member of the St. Bernard Community Center, and Vice-Chair of the St. Bernard Parish Personnel Board. He is the past President of the St. Bernard Recreation Corporation, and past member of the St. Bernard Recreation Booster Club. He is also an ABC member of the Chalmette High Alumni Association.
Mr. Bradley has also coached baseball, football, and basketball at the middle school level, with the Recreation Department, All-Stars, and traveling teams.
Mr. Bradley sites his years of teaching in our school system, his involvement in School Board activities, his work with our Recreation Department, and other civic endeavors in our Parish as his qualifications to serve as our District Five representative on the St. Bernard School Board. Tuesday, November 6 is Election Day and early voting takes place from October 23 to October 30, at the St. Bernard Parish Government Complex.
