All non-emergency offices of St. Bernard Parish Government will be closed on Monday, November 12, 2018, in observance of Veterans Day. Offices will resume normal business hours on Tuesday, November 13, 2018.
The public is invited to attend the annual Veterans’ Day Parade and Recognition Ceremony on Sunday, November 11, 2018.
Trolley service will be from 8:30 to 9:00 a.m. and will transport veterans from the Sigur Center parking lot to the starting point for the parade. The parade will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the corner of Old Hickory Avenue and Judge Perez Drive. The route will travel west on Judge Perez Drive and end at the Frederick Sigur Civic Center, located at 8245 W. Judge Perez Drive. Immediately following the parade a Recognition Ceremony will be held in front of the Veterans Monument for all veterans. This year’s Guest Speaker will be Retired Master Sergeant Henry Ballard, Jr. of Chalmette. Ballard served 20 years with the Louisiana Air National Guard.
Veterans from all branches of the military are invited to be recognized in this year’s ceremony and to ride in the parade. The parade will provide vehicles for elderly or disabled veterans if needed.
The parade and recognition ceremony will honor the many veterans who have sacrificed and those who continue to sacrifice to protect our country. There will be many groups participating in the parade such as the Honor Guard, Color Guard, and ROTC.
“We invite everyone to come out and line the parade route to show your Parish Pride and Support, not only for our veterans but for Veterans around the country,” said President McInnis. Flags will be distributed along the parade route to be waived in celebration.
All veterans will receive a light lunch from Rocky and Carlos Restaurant. St. Bernard Parish Government would like to thank Gulf Coast Bank and Trust for sponsoring the lunch and Trolley each year for our Veterans. Veterans who wish to participate should register with Maurine Liuzza at 504-278-1507.
