The Company: A St. Bernard Community Theatre brings Mamma Mia! to The Strand, at the Scarlet Pearl Casino, in Biloxi

The Company: A St. Bernard Community Theatre will be performing Mamma Mia! on April 20th at The Strand, The Scarlet Pearl’s entertainment venue, in Biloxi Mississippi. After a successful two-week run at Nunez Community College in November, The Company was asked to bring the show on the road to Mississippi.

Director Tony Ortego was excited when he got the call. “This is a fantastic opportunity for everyone to see the level of talent we have locally,” Ortego said. “This show, this cast, it was like the perfect storm. What a great way to start a relationship . The people at The Scarlet Pearl have been outstanding, very professional.” Ortego says that the relationship between the non-profit community theatre organization and the casino is young, and has the potential to grow.

The spring has been very busy for The Company. In March, they hosted the first annual “1300 Miles Off Off Broadway 10 minute play festival” in partnership with the UNO MFA playwriting program, followed the next weekend by “13: The Musical” at their new Azienda Theater on Paris Road and St. Bernard Hwy. The next two weekends found them performing The Wizard Of OZ in front of a sold out house at Nunez Community College. The full spring schedule, and the fact that The Company just performed the show, led to a compressed rehearsal schedule for Mamma Mia!, and rehearsals have been intense this time around. Choreographer Mary Collins says the cast has responded well, “There’s no doubt that everyone understands what we have to get done, and how long we have to do it. They’ve been amazing. They’re working really hard.”

The Company is a non-profit community theatre organization that is dedicated to giving everyone in the area the chance to participate in live theatre. They take pride in the fact that they make theatre accessible to everyone. They’ve successfully kept their ticket prices low (tickets are $10.00), without sacrificing quality. Their focus is on putting performers in the right situation to succeed.

Tickets for the April 20 performance can be purchased on the Scarlet Pearl’s website at https://www.scarletpearlcasino.com/purchase-event-tickets?id=4847. They’re selling fast.
