St. Bernard Parish Rabies and Microchip Drive set for Saturday, May 11

Friends of the Animal Shelter of St. Bernard will host the St. Bernard Parish Rabies and Microchip Drive on Saturday, May 11, 2019, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The drive will be held at the St. Bernard Parish Animal Services located at 5455 East Judge Perez Drive in Violet. No appointment is necessary. Rabies vaccinations ($15 per pet) and identification microchips ($15 per pet) will be available for purchase. All dogs must be on a leash and cats should be in a pet taxi or cat carrier (no cardboard boxes).

St. Bernard Parish and Louisiana state laws require dogs and cats to receive a rabies vaccination annually. Each year more than 55,000 people die from rabies around the world. Rabies is caused by a virus that’s often transmitted through animal bites. The Center for Disease Control states that more than 90 percent of reported animal rabies cases in the U.S. are in wild animals. The tags can identify each pet and its owner through records at the St. Bernard Parish Animal Shelter. For more information contact The Animal Services Office at 504-278-1534.
