Yummy Fun At The St. Bernard Parish Library

Normally the St. Bernard Parish Library would be finishing up its summer reading programming when the sixth week of activities rolled around. Not this summer, we are having so much virtual fun we are going to keep going for another four weeks! We have lots more awesome programs to stream and are inviting our summer readers to keep up with the fun!

Week 6 gets started on Monday, July 6th with Page Turner Adventures taking summer readers into the kitchen with them as they cook up their Imagine Your COOKING Story. They will be making noises with the pots and pans all week long with Page Turner and Kenny as they host the Great Pizza contest with Vincent Van Dough and Leonardo Da Munchi and Mayor Ann Chovi. Kids will get crafty with lots of piping hot creations.

The arts will come to life in various forms this week as we learn about the culinary arts when Page Turner Adventures take our summer readers on a field trip to see Gayon and Willimour Daniel at Young Chef’s Academy in Coral Springs, FL. More ‘half-baked’ hilarity is sure to be on the menu when this program begins streaming on Friday, July 10th.

Mouse and Bird Calliope Puppets.

Another yummy treat is being cooked up by Calliope Puppets with Ms. Karen Konnerth as she presents her very own virtual puppet show and mini-workshop for library friends of all ages. If you are hungry for a great show then you will want sit down and pull up a chair any time between July 10-July 16th to see this delectable program. Viewers will be treated to a rare opportunity to see two timeless mouse tales told from a magical miniature stage with hand carved Czech Rod marionettes. The 30-minutes presentation will be followed by an up-close puppet demonstration as well as a mini-workshop where budding puppeteers can make a simple stage and puppets using materials from around the house.

The St. Bernard Parish Library is grateful for the opportunity to bring so many wonderful virtual programs to our summer readers and their families. We would not be able to do that if it were not for funding from Decentralized Arts Fund grant that comes from the Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism, in cooperation with the Louisiana State Arts Council, and as administered by the St. Tammany Commission on Cultural Affairs, St. Tammany Parish Government. Funding has also been provided by the National Endowment for the Arts, Art Works as well as a donation from Arlette and Wayne Nunez and the Shell Matching Funds Gift Program.

All of the programming being presented on the library’s summer reading webpage can be streamed from wherever our summer readers are. Patrons are asked to check the online calendar for the dates streaming is available for particular programs. While we normally enjoy the artist and audience interactions our live programming makes possible, with our virtual programming viewers are encouraged to leave comments during or following the online shows so that we can maintain that special connection our summer readers have with the many special and talented artists who are still sharing their craft with us. Let’s make this virtual summer reading event the best one it can be!
