St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office Taking Registration for Night Out Parties

Looking for a great way to get to know your neighbors better and help fight crime at the same time?

Consider hosting a Night Out Against Crime party on Tuesday, Oct. 17 in your neighborhood. It’s a great way for neighbors to strengthen bonds and increase crime prevention awareness.

St. Bernard residents who plan to host a Night Out party are asked to register their gathering as soon as possible with the St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office by calling Lt. Eric Eilers, head of Community Relations, at (504) 278-7628.

Sheriff James Pohlmann and Sheriff’s Office deputies will visit various gatherings on the evening of Oct. 17 to meet residents and answer any questions they may have about law enforcement issues and crime prevention.

Lt. Eilers said there are usually about two dozen events held in St. Bernard each year, some at churches and public places, as well as at private homes.

Although National Night Out is held in August across the country, several local leaders in Southeast Louisiana opted in 2011 to move the event to October to escape the summer heat.
