At its most recent board meeting, the St. Bernard Parish School Board held elections for president and vice president for the 2025 calendar year. Katherine Karcher Lemoine, who represents district 1, was unanimously elected as board president while Diana Dysart, the district 7 representative, was elected vice president.
Lemoine, an educator with twenty years of experience in both K-12 and Higher Education, said she is excited by this opportunity to serve. “I really appreciate the trust that my fellow board members have placed in me, and I look forward to working together to unlock the potential of all of our students,” she said.
Lemoine was also quick to credit her mentor, the late Dr. Hugh Craft for his guidance and influence. “Dr. Craft was a true inspiration and a great leader, and I am honored to carry on his legacy of learning as the President of the St. Bernard School Board.”
Dysart, who has served on the board since 1983, said she is proud of what the district has accomplished over the years. “We are blessed to have so many dedicated teachers and employees who all work together for the betterment of the children of our community,” Dysart said “I look forward to more great things from our students in this coming year.”
Also on hand for the meeting was Parish President Louis Pomes, who presented the board with a proclamation to declare January as School Board Member Recognition Month. In his address, he remarked on the board’s commitment to ensuring a quality education for students in the St. Bernard Parish Public School System.
“On behalf of myself, my administration, and the entire council, I want to say thank you for all that you do for the children and people of St. Bernard Parish,” Pomes said. We appreciate your hard work and the incredible job you do each day. I look forward to working together with you for many years to come.”
