St. Bernard Parish State Representative Mike Bayham visited our nation’s capital in January to attend the inauguration of Donald Trump as the 47th president of the United States of America and meet with congressional leaders and diplomats regarding local and state matters.
“Though the ceremony was moved indoors due to reasons of weather and public safety, I was proud to be in Washington with tens of thousands of enthusiastic countrymen for the peaceful and orderly transition of national administrations,” said Bayham, who had previously attended three presidential inaugurations.
Representative Bayham met with French Ambassador Laurent Bili at a reception held at the official residence where the upcoming America 250 celebration in 2026 was discussed and the Chalmette legislator presented the diplomat with the Louisiana State Commission’s official America 250 pin.
On Capitol Hill, Representative Bayham visited with congressmen and staffers from each member of Louisiana’s federal delegation.
The topics included the parish’s opposition to the proposed LIT Violet Port Project, the need to take swift federal action to stop the dumping of largely untested imported seafood on the domestic market, and funding for badly needed drainage projects in St. Bernard.
While in Washington, Bayham also participated in the March for Life, an event that drew hundreds of thousands of Pro-Life activists of all ages, political officials, and religious leaders from. across the country.
