The Resilience Workshop is part of a series included in the Water Challenge, an initiative presented by Propeller focused on solving our region’s most pressing water issues through entrepreneurship. Originally seeded by the Greater New Orleans Foundation and The Idea Village. The Water Challenge is funded by the Greater New Orleans Foundation, sponsored by JPMorgan Chase & Co. and the U.S. Economic Development Administration, and supported by Entergy Corporation.
Given the importance of resilience in our region, the panel examined how resilience efforts can be integrated into the daily operations of local governments. Recent years have seen moves towards embedding resilience concepts within our parishes, including the establishment of the Office of Resilience and Sustainability and Chief Resilience Officer position within the City of New Orleans, the creation of Jefferson Parish’s Stormwater Management Advisory Committee, and development of St. Bernard Parish’s Integrated Water Resource Management Plan. The workshop also explored how resilience and best practices in water management can become operationalized in local government to reduce risk to our region.
