AgMagic on the River will take over Docville Farm in Violet.
Urban third through sixth-grade students will tour the exhibit and learn about agricultural products, coastal restoration and the importance of aquaculture in south Louisiana May on 10-12. The event is open to the public for Family Day on May 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free.
This the fourth year the LSU AgCenter and the Meraux Foundation will hold AgMagic on the River.
“Our main goal is to give students the opportunity to make the connection with what they learn in the classroom,” said Beth Gambel, LSU AgCenter AgMagic coordinator. “When children have the opportunity to see lessons come to life, they tend to remember them longer.”
Visitors will be able to pet cows, rabbits, goats, sheep and baby chicks and observe bees in their honeycomb. Other activities include candling eggs, planting seeds, digging for potatoes, identifying the age of trees, and making leaf and insect rubbings.
Docville Farm is located 5124 E. Saint Bernard Highway, Violet – about 20 minutes from downtown New Orleans.
