Howell Julian Merwin, a Veteran who proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, passed away on Friday, April 14, 2017 at the age of 82. He was the beloved husband of 52 years to Marion Margaret Vallee Merwin. Loving father of Courtney Maria and proud grandfather of Madison Maria. He was the son of the late Emily Schallenberg and William “Bill” F. Merwin. Brother of the late Doris M. Mascari, Myrl M. Berger, Naomi A. Merwin, William “Willie” F. Merwin, Jr. and Roy L. Merwin. He was the brother-in-law of the late Virgin Vallee and Richard F. Wallace, the late Shirley and George J. Vallee, Jr., son-in-law of the late Albertine Gonzales Vallee and George J. Vallee, Sr.
He will be fondly remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Howell was a native of New Orleans, LA and a longtime resident of St. Bernard Parish, currently residing in Denham Springs, LA. He operated his business, Howell J. Merwin Sheet Metal Co. for over 35 years and was an employee of the St. Bernard Parish School Board from 1978 until his retirement in October 2005. He will forever be remembered as a loving and loyal husband, father and grandfather who loved his country and treasured his family.

Relatives and friends were invited to attend a visitation held at Our Lady Of Prompt Succor Church, 2320 Paris Rd., Chalmette, LA on Saturday, April 22, 2017 from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., followed by a funeral Mass in his memory that began at 12:30 p.m. He was laid to rest in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
