Roy Anthony Mistretta, Sr.

Roy Anthony Mistretta, Sr. passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the age of 91. He was preceded in death by his parents Stefano and Vita Monteleone; stepmother Vita L.; his “Queen” Rosalie Bowers and son Roy Jr., his wife’s children Patricia Schleg (and Jody Decody), and Frankie; and as patriarch of 12 siblings, Frank, Josie, Rita “Vit”, Salvador “Red” Armato, Katie, Emile and Joe. He survived by his daughter Toni Gass; grandchildren Robert Gass, Roblynn Sliwinski, Chris, Roy III and Chad Mistretta; 18 great and 9 great-great grandchildren; his siblings, Mary Dandry, Salvador “Tuddy”, Kelly, Steve and Christine Lewis, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Beloved by families Ciancio, Pagano and Nichols including his goddaughter Cathy Peterson. As a young adult he was an ice man and delivered produce in the French Quarter. He worked at Falstaff Brewery and was very proud of being employee of the year at Abita-Kentwood Water Company. He was well loved, and affectionately known for his good nature and generous heart.

Relatives and friends were invited to attend a visitation to be held at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Saturday, April 29, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service that began at 11:00 a.m. He was laid to rest with his beloved wife in St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery No. 3 in New Orleans, LA.
