School District announces Summer Swim Program

The St. Bernard Parish School Board will offer swimming lessons at the Chalmette High School Swimming Pool this summer to current 1st-5th graders who are residents of St. Bernard Parish.  Each session consists of 10 one-hour swim classes, and two sessions are offered, May 29th – June 9th and June 12th – 23rd.  Classes are taught by certified water safety instructors, and a lifeguard will be on duty.  There is a $50 charge per session in order to offset the costs of pool maintenance and swim staff.

Classes begin at noon each day and run throughout the day, with the final class offered at 5:30 p.m.  Limited spots are available in both sessions, and registration is completed on a first-come-first-served basis.  Please note that parents are not able to attend lessons with their child. This creates a distraction and can present a safety hazard during class time.  Parents are responsible for transportation to and from swim class.

Parents can complete registration for summer swim classes by securing an application at the St. Bernard Parish School Board Office – 200 E. St. Bernard Hwy.  The offices are open at 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., Monday-Thursday, and until 4:00 p.m. on Friday.  Please be prepared to present proof of residence in St. Bernard and the $50 lesson fee at the time of registration.

For additional information, please call Yvette McNamara at the School Board Office, 301-2000.
