St. Bernard Parish Officials toured Point aux Marchettes with Officials from U.S. Department of The Interior, Fish and Wildlife Service. The project was voted in the top 10 for consideration by the Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection and Restoration Act (CWPPRA) Technical Committee. The project is estimated to cost between $30-35 million and would protect over 5.5 miles of shoreline in the Biloxi Marsh and protect over 260 acres of highly productive marsh. It would also create 3 acres (7,000 linear feet) of marsh terracing. The Point aux Marchettes project is consistent with the MRGO Ecosystem Restoration Plan and the 2017 State Coastal Master Plan. The group toured the site as part of the evaluation process.
