Scholarship Students Choose Nunez for Quality and Affordability

Nunez Community College has selected two students as 2017-2018 Chancellor’s Scholarship recipients. The award winners are Raquel Morales of Kenner and Kamryn Villavaso of Chalmette. Both are 2017 high school graduates. Morales is a graduate of Bonnabel High School and Villavaso is a graduate of Chalmette High School.

They were selected from a competitive pool of applicants for this prestigious scholarship. Students have to meet academic standards, demonstrate leadership abilities, and maintain full-time enrollment in order to be eligible for the Chancellor’s Scholarship. The scholarship award is $1,000.00 per semester and is renewable for up to four semesters.

“I’m excited for this transition into college life and growing up, while preparing for a career in healthcare,” said Morales.

Morales will enroll in the medical coding and billing certificate program while also preparing to transfer into a four-year healthcare management program after completing her studies at Nunez. Her interest in healthcare management has developed through her part-time job at Ortho Synetics. At Bonnabel, Morales was the student body president and a member of the National Honors Society.

Villavaso will pursue an associate of general studies degree and take pre-requisite courses needed for pharmacy school. She has already started spending time on Nunez’s campus, working this summer as a student assistant to the academic advisors in the College’s Student Success Center. As a high school student, Villavaso was a member of Mu Alpha Theta mathematics honor society.

“I was offered admission at a local university, then Nunez offered me a scholarship opportunity that I wouldn’t have had at another school. By starting at Nunez, I can attend college more affordably and prepare for my future studies to become a pharmacist,” said Villavaso.
