At the September 19 meeting of the Kiwanis Club of St Bernard-Arabi the guest speaker was President of the St Bernard Reading Council, Shelley Lacoste. Shelley is Arabi ES teacher with a passion for reading. Shelley shared information about the St. Bernard Reading Council, whose mission is to increase literacy in the parish and to inspire educators to not only be the best teachers that they can be, but also to be the best people they can be. They have over 130 members who coordinate and support literacy programs, such as the mobile library bus a few summers ago, throughout the parish. They also have an outreach program with the local food pantry. If you are interested in joining the St Bernard Reading Council, contact Shelley Lacoste at slacoste@sbpsb.org or (504) 909-2812. St Bernard Reading Council needs guest readers, reading mentors and donations. Many members of the Kiwanis Club joined the St Bernard Reading Council.
