Caprice Renee Smith

On Wednesday evening November 1st, 2017, the New Orleans Saints football team lost their #1 most passionate, diehard fan after a long illness.

Born on March 24, 1962 in Denver, Colorado, Caprice Renee Smith was raised in New Orleans, Louisiana and spent many years there before moving to Watertown, Massachusetts 11 years ago.

She became a teacher’s assistant through Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and the University of New Orleans. Caprice worked at various places throughout her life but especially loved her time as a librarian in Mississippi and Louisiana and as an after-care teacher in Massachusetts. Most recently, she taught in the Watertown Public Schools’ after-school program. She had a bond with the children she taught and carried friendships with many of them throughout her life.

To say Caprice was a passionate New Orleans Saint fan does not do her justice. In 2009, when the Saints won the Super Bowl she converted many of her loyal New England fans to her side. Her house is full of New Orleans Saints memorabilia, her parties revolved around games, and her talented cooking abilities were based on New Orleans cuisine.

Caprice, the life of a party, loved and lived life to the fullest. She enjoyed collecting antiques, original Fiesta ware and doing puzzles. She was a music buff and was the catalyst in bringing Melissa Etheridge to Charlene’s in New Orleans in the infancy of Ms. Etheridge’s musical career. Caprice will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Caprice is survived by her devoted and loving partner of 11 years Deborah M. Shaer of Watertown, her dear brother Leonard A. Smith of Hurst, TX, her cherished nieces Katelyn Miller and Alyssa Smith, and her stepbrother Carl Blanco. In addition, she is survived by numerous friends, extended family members, and her cherished pups, Courage & Breesy.

Relatives & Friends are respectfully invited to attend a celebration of Caprice’s life at Saint Bernard Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue Street, Chalmette, LA 70043 on Friday, November 10, 2017. Visitation will be from Noon to 2:00 p.m., with her service and burial to follow at St. Bernard Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Flowers are gratefully appreciated as Caprice loved flowers and always had them in her home. Expressions of sympathy may also be made to Caprice’s ASPCA Memorial Fund via the following link: https://secure.aspca.org/team/Caprice’s Memorial Campaign.
