Frederick Gordon Willhoft, Jr.

Frederick Gordon Willhoft Jr., 68, of Chalmette, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 17th, 2018. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on August 1st, 1949.

Son of the late Frederick Gordon Willhoft, Sr. and Martha Moore Willhoft.  He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Cappo Willhoft, who he has been married to for 41 years. Gordon is survived by his six children, Fred Willhoft (Jill), Frederick G Willhoft, III, Melissa Thomas (Dave), Joseph Willhoft, Tricia Bech (Garrett), and Erica Burton (John).  He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, his brother, Eric Willhoft, his sister, Lucille Claverie; and the rest of his relatives and friends. Gordon is also preceded in death by his sisters, Marion Willhoft and Wanda Willhoft.

He graduated from Holy Cross High School in 1967 then worked in his family’s business for numerous years until starting his own launch service, Crescent Ship Service, in 1975.  He singlehandedly grew this business into one of the largest launch boat operators on the Mississippi River.  He was active in several civic and charitable organizations, including Crescent City Corvette Club, Krewe of Endymion, and Our Lady of Prompt Succor Church.

But more importantly, he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather that will be missed immensely.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend an evening visitation to be held on Thursday, February 22, 2018, from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA followed by a visitation Friday morning, February 23, 2018, from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM at OUR LADY OF PROMPT SUCCOR CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2320 Paris Rd., Chalmette, LA. A Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 AM.  He will be laid to rest in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.

Additionally, the family of Frederick Gordon Willhoft Jr. wishes to expressly thank the entire East Jefferson General Hospital staff for their tireless work and devotion to helping Gordon.
