Forum Also to be Live-Streamed on Government Access Channel
In preparation for the upcoming November election, the St. Bernard Chamber of Commerce will host a political forum to give St. Bernard Parish residents the chance to learn more about the candidates running for St. Bernard Parish School Board and Judge. The forum is scheduled for tonight, October 24 from 6-7:30 PM, and will be held at the St. Bernard Parish Council Chambers – 8201 West Judge Perez Drive, Chalmette, Louisiana 70043.
“We view this as a valuable opportunity for candidates to present their platforms to the public and for residents to get the information they need to make educated, informed decisions on Election Day,” said Cathy Alfonso, CEO of the St. Bernard Chamber. “While the Chamber doesn’t endorse or support any candidate, we do want to make sure the community has the chance to determine whether candidates are qualified for a particular position and whether they can handle those responsibilities and effectively address the concerns of their constituents.”
The candidates confirmed to participate include: School Board District 5: Dennis Bradley and Joe Long, School Board District 9: Keisa Rodney and Shelton Smith, and School Board District 10: Carl Gaines Jr. and Rosalind White. Judicial Candidates Gregory Rome and Darren Roy are also confirmed to attend.
The event will be moderated by Mike Sherman, founder of Sherman Strategies LLC, and is free of charge and open to the public. Attendees are asked not to wear, distribute or display any colors, logos, signs, literature, etc. showing support for any candidate. The forum is designed to be neutral and fair, and the St. Bernard Chamber strives to keep a professional and respectful atmosphere at the event. Questions will not be taken from the audience.
The schedule for the event is as follows:
6:00 PM: Welcome
6:02 PM: Introduction/Rules
6:05 PM: District 5 School Board Candidates
6:25 PM: District 9 School Board Candidates
6:45 PM: District 10 School Board Candidates
