St. Bernard Parish Retired Teachers Announce Retiree of the Year

The St. Bernard Retired Teachers’ Association (SBRTA) held its quarterly meeting on Friday, March 22 at the Docville Farm in Violet. Sixty retired teachers and support personnel were in attendance. At the meeting the 2018 Retiree of the Year was announced, and Ms. Mickey Lux, a retired English teacher who taught at Chalmette Middle and Andrew Jackson High, was announced as the recipient.

“Ms. Lux has been an outstanding retired member of our organization,” stated Paul Grethel, SBRTA President. “Besides being a officer of SBRTA, she has attended several state organization activities and is very active in her community rescuing animals with the ARNO group, teaching and volunteering with the People’s Program, as a lector/commentator for her church, and as a member of Delta Kapa Gamma.

Besides the honoring of Ms. Lux at the meeting, those attending heard from the Louisiana Retired Teachers Association (LRTA) Executive Director about the upcoming legislative session and about information on Social Security benefits. A team from AMBA (Association Member Benefits Advisors) also gave a presentation on the many benefit programs that a member can receive by being a member of the LRTA.

SBRTA works with the Louisiana Retired Teachers’ Association to promote social, professional and economic status of retired and active school employees and works to educate and improve public education. Retired and active teachers can join the SBRTA association to help in this work to educate and influence the Louisiana Legislature on behalf of public education.

The SBRTA’s website is www.sbrta.org for those interested in any additional information on membership or activities for which the organization is involved.
