The St. Bernard Retired Teachers Association delivered school supplies to two elementary schools in St. Bernard Parish. Over $1,200 in school supplies was collected throughout the year with retired school teachers and support persons at their quarterly meetings. The supplies included everything from crayons and scissors to notebooks, paper, and books. The organization divided the materials collected into two and brought half to W. Smith Elementary School and the other half to Chalmette Elementary in mid-January.

“We do this to help give back to the schools which we all have dedicated our lives to and which we love so much,” stated SBRTA Secretary, Michaele Lux. She added that if any teachers have any special requests for volunteers or other help to let the organization know.

Anyone interested in joining SBRTA can do so by visiting www.sbrta.org for a membership application. Besides teachers, administrators and support personnel, anyone who is a “friend of education” can join.
