Quynh Phan was recently recognized by the Louisiana Board of Regents as an Excellent Future Educator. A UNO Residency 2 student in Mrs. Randall’s 2nd grade class at Joseph Davies Elementary School, Phan was nominated by her professors in the Department of Education at the University of New Orleans for her excellence in the classroom. Recently, Phan was practicing reading fluency with her students when some of her UNO professors and St. Bernard Parish School System Administrators shared the big news. In addition to this big, surprising news, Phan also received a candy bouquet and a certificate of recognition.
Michelle Daussin, Assistant Professor of Professional Practice at the UNO Department of Education, said Phan is very deserving of this honor. “Ms. Phan’s participation and dedication to her professional growth have been phenomenal,” Daussin said. “She has gone above and beyond throughout her residency, from decorating hallways on weekends to creating unique and engaging lessons for her students, growing tremendously into a highly effective future educator.”
2nd Grade mentor teacher Catherine Randall said Phan has been a wonderful addition to her classroom and commended her for always going the extra mile to engage students. “Ms. Phan has been a true asset to our classroom, doing so much more than what’s in the book,” Randall said. “She always puts her own ‘spin’ on a lesson, whether it’s a game, experiment, or some type of extension activity. The students respect and love her.”
Quynh Phan will be honored at the Louisiana Board of Regents Future Educator Honor Roll Ceremony on May 7, 2024, at the Old Governor’s Mansion in Baton Rouge on May 6th along with other outstanding future educators from universities throughout the state. Congratulations to this outstanding teacher resident.
