The Louisiana State Senate will hold its 13th Annual Military Family Day to honor Louisiana Fallen Heroes and their families on Wednesday, May 10th, at 2:30 p.m., during the legislative session in the Senate Chamber at the State Capitol.

Since the Military Family Day’s program inception in 2005, the Senate has honored 224 fallen soldiers from Louisiana serving in the U.S. military for their sacrifice in defense of freedom. This year, four fallen heroes will be honored with a resolution, authored and read by Senator Jonathan Perry (R-Kaplan) and passed by the entire membership. Each resolution will be given to the soldier’s family along with a state flag. The following will be honored:

  • MSgt Austin Dallie Bennett, United States Air Force
  • LCPL Evan Burnett, United States Marine Corps
  • SSG Matthew Mackey, United States Army
  • SGT Charles Voisin, Jr., Louisiana Army National Guard

“It is an honor and a blessing that we are able to come together as a legislative body to honor the men and women who have served and sacrificed for our nation and state,” said Sen. Perry.

The ceremony will begin at 2:30 p.m. in the Senate Chamber and a balloon release will be held immediately following the program on the steps of the State Capitol. The families of the fallen soldiers and all military families are invited and encouraged to attend.
