International Visitors Attending the AACC Convention Come to Campus

The American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) held its annual convention in New Orleans from April 22 – April 25. The convention draws community and technical college faculty and administrators from around the world and with Nunez’s proximity to downtown New Orleans, several international delegations made a visit to the College. Visitors were treated to a tour of campus and spent time with faculty and instructors from Nunez’s industrial technology (PTEC) program. Many of the institutions represented offer similar programs or are interested in developing industry-driven credentials.

“This was a wonderful opportunity through AACC to meet with community and technical college leaders from all over the world. Having them on campus not only allowed us to showcase Nunez Community College, but to learn what other colleges are doing in Europe and Africa,” said Dr. Tommy Warner, Nunez’s chancellor.

Representatives from the following institutions and locations visited Nunez: the Danish Ministry of Higher Education and Science: Copenhagen, Denmark; Burton and South Derbyshire College: Burton-on-Trent, England; Portsmouth Highbury College: Portsmouth, England; Institut Universitaire de Technologie: Marseille, France; and Grand Gedeh County Community College: Zwedru City, Liberia.

“I learned a lot that I will take back to Liberia. Your way of doing community college education has changed my worldview,” said Dr. Solomon Jallayu, President of Grand Gedeh County Community College, of his visit to Nunez and experience with the PTEC program faculty.

Nunez has worked with AACC before, hosting visitors to campus during the Association’s Workforce Development Institute held in New Orleans in January, 2016, but this was the first time that so many international visitors have come to the College. Former Louisiana Community and Technical College System (LCTCS) president, Dr. Walter Bumphus, now heads the AACC. Learn more about the AACC at: www.aacc.nche.edu.

Nunez Community College is an open-enrollment comprehensive community college offering over 30 academic and technical programs. Registration for summer and fall classes is open now. Visit www.nunez.edu or call (504) 278-6467 to apply and enroll.
