Nineteen teams participated last Saturday in the St. Bernard Parish School Board’s Lions Club Annual Golf Tournament. The tournament was held at the Oak Harbor Golf Course in Slidell and raised over $6,000.

Founded in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the School Board established the Lion’s Club as a way to pay forward the generosity of those who came to the district’s aid in its darkest hour.

St. Bernard Parish School Board Lions Club President Paul Granberry, who was a founding member of the club following the storm, said, “The Lions Club International’s support following the storm was crucial in our rebuilding efforts. Today, we are grateful to have the opportunity to have our very own Lions Club which allows us to continue to serve the students of our parish.”

Today, proceeds from the annual fundraiser support the district’s initiatives to provide eye screenings to all pre-kindergarten students throughout the parish and scholarships for students with special needs to attend the Lions Club Summer Camp.
