St. Bernard Parish’s Academic Games Team competed in Wheeling, West Virginia recently joining over 2,000 students from across the nation.

Academic Games is a tournament style academic competition where students are challenged to use higher order thinking skills in the subjects of language arts, English, history, and mathematics.

Superintendent Doris Voitier said this activity is near and dear to her heart.

“We are so proud of our students for their achievements this year. Each year we get nothing but accolades for our students’ behavior, their character, their integrity, and their sportsmanship at the national tournament. All of which proves once again, St. Bernard Parish students are second to none in every respect,” she said.

Chalmette Refining/PBF Energy is the school district’s corporate sponsor and makes the local and national tournaments possible.

Supervisor of Secondary Education Mary Lumetta thanked them for their continued support.

“The money they have put into the local and national tournaments not only defrays costs for the parents, but it also saves the students from having to fundraise and instead allows them to use their energies towards studying, learning, and competing. We have had an amazing partnership with Chalmette Refining/ PBF Energy and could not thank them enough for their generosity,” she said.
