Andrew Jackson’s 6th grade students visit the Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory (LIGO)

Ms. Sophie Crook was able to take Andrew Jackson’s 6th grade students to LIGO, Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory, in Livingston, LA. LIGO is a real science research facility where they are carrying out experiments to detect waves that pass through the earth from colliding black holes out in space. At LIGO, students were able to see where the LIGO scientists do their research and take a tour of the facility. The best part for the students was getting to explore in the exhibit hall with 30 or 40 different activities that connected to what they learned in class. Overall, the field trip was a great experience for students to play with science and see it happen in real life.
