Alphonse August Miller, Jr.

Alphonse August Miller Jr. (Al, Papa, Brother), passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at the age of 85. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that he had touched in some way throughout his very memorable life.

He was the beloved husband of 62 years to Wanda Rae Thomas Miller, married on December 28, 1954 at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Shreveport, LA.  Loving father of Jan Miller Morgan and her husband David Morgan of Braithwaite, LA, Kelli Ann Miller of Violet, LA, Alphonse August Miller III and his wife Desiree Dubroc Miller of LaPlace, LA and the late Alphonse Matthias Miller.  Son of the late Alphonse August Miller Sr. and Mabel Gonzales Miller. Brother of the late Kenneth Miller Sr. of Braithwaite, LA, Maxine Gonzalez of Lithia, FL and Laura Sullivan of Braithwaite, LA.  Brother-in-law of Alfonso Gonzalez and the late Al Sullivan, Rose Marie Miller, Larry & Janice Reynaud, Joe & Gwen Thomas. Son-in-law of the late Edward Thomas and Arda Harper Thomas. Proud grandfather of Christina Allemore (Chad Walls), Chad Morgan (Rachel Morgan), Ashley Herleikson (Jimmy Corley), Nicholas Miller (Rebecca Miller), Nancy Herleikson (Scott Sattler), Beth Herleikson, Jordan Stadler, Dustin Miller & Brandon Miller and the late Clint Richard Morgan. Great grandfather of Ashlyn Allemore, Collin Morgan, Caden Morgan, Alyssa Allemore, Reese Morgan, Jimmy Corley III, Brooke Sattler, Addison Herleikson, Crawford Morgan, Kaylie Herleikson, Paizlynn Miller, Isabella Herleikson and Abigail Herleikson. He is also survived and fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Alphonse was born in Dalcour, LA and lived in Braitwaite, LA until Hurricane Isaac in 2012 where he and Wanda moved to Violet, LA. He graduated from Delgado with degrees in Aircraft Mechanics and Drafting. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force as a Staff Sergeant from 1951-1955. Following his military service, he enjoyed a long career with Kaiser Aluminum for 25 years as General Foreman and Owner/Operator of A&A Truck Service.  He was a devoted member of the Braithwaite Lions Club and Member of Assumption of Our Lady Catholic Church in Bertrandville, LA.

Al loved fishing, baseball (The Boston Red Sox), golf, gardening, camping, cruising (especially soft-serve Ice Cream), traveling and #1 fan of his baseball playing son, grandsons, great-grandsons and friends. Frequent spectator at Val Reiss Park. He was an avid Saints fan even back in the day when everyone else wore bags on their heads. Al loved sharing breakfast at Charlie’s Restaurant with his beloved “gang”. He was well loved and affectionately known for his good nature and generous heart. He will be forever remembered as a loving and loyal husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and a friend of many, who loved his country and treasured his friends and family.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Saturday, August 26th from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass beginning at 11:00 a.m. Pallbearers are Alphonse Miller III, Chad Morgan, Wayne Sullivan, Jordan Stadler, Dustin Miller, Brandon Miller, Jimmy Corley, Collin Morgan, Caden Morgan and Chad Walls.
